🔥 A Generation That Forgot God

😩 When Everything Falls Apart

Ever had one of those days?

The kind where everything goes wrong—one disaster after another? Sometimes it’s just life: unexpected weather, other people’s decisions, things outside your control. 🌧️

But sometimes, if we’re honest, the blame falls on us. We failed to prepare. We overcommitted. We made poor decisions. 🙈

That’s exactly where the people of Israel found themselves in Judges 2. Not just in a bad moment—but in full-on spiritual crisis. And when everything came crashing down, God sent a messenger to confront them.

👑 A Divine Wake-Up Call

An angel of the Lord—likely a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus—arrives with a sobering reminder. God had been faithful:

• He delivered them from Egypt 🐪

• Brought them into the promised land 🌾

• Promised never to break His covenant 🙌

But Israel didn’t hold up their end of the deal.

They were told not to make deals with the people of the land 🤝 and to tear down their idols 🛑—but they compromised.

“Why have ye done this?” (Judges 2:2)
A question that still cuts deep today.

Their disobedience had consequences:

🪓 God would no longer drive out their enemies.

🌵 The Canaanites would be thorns in their sides.

⛓️ Their false gods would become traps.

The Israelites chose convenience over conviction—and it broke them. 😢

They named the place Bochim, meaning weepers.

They were sorry… but they were out of time.

🧓🏽 When One Generation Drops the Torch

We rewind for a moment to Joshua’s final days.

As long as Joshua and the elders were alive, Israel served the Lord faithfully. 🙏 But once they were gone, a shift occurred:

“There arose another generation… which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.” (Judges 2:10)

This new generation had heard of God, but didn’t know Him. He was their parents’ God, not their own. 😔

Why?

Because no one told them.

The older generation passed on land, tribute, and power… but not their faith. 📉

✌️ Two Big Lessons for Us Today

This story is a warning—but also a challenge.

1️⃣ Make Godly Decisions Now

Someday, you’ll look back with clearer eyes. 👀

What decisions will you be proud of? Which ones will make you say, “I wish I had…”?

Don’t wait for regret.

Choose obedience now. Follow Jesus today. 🙌

2️⃣ Invest in the Next Generation

Your choices impact more than just you.

You’re a model to someone younger—whether you know it or not. 👶👧🧑

Kids in Awana. Teens in youth group. Your own children and grandchildren.

Two hours a week at church won’t be enough to prepare them for the world they face. 🌍

They need to see real faith—in you. At home. Every day.

🗣️ It’s not just the church’s job. It’s yours. It’s mine.

⏳ What Will Your Legacy Be?

Like Joshua’s generation, one day we will pass off the scene.

Will we leave behind:

• A trail of regret? 😞

• Or a generation prepared to follow Jesus boldly? 🕊️

Let’s commit to two things:

• ✅ Make godly decisions now so we can rejoice later.

• ✅ Invest in discipling the next generation while we still have time.

Israel didn’t.

We still can. 🙏
